Prakash Saput: A Renowned Nepalese Singer, Composer, and Actor

Prakash Bishwakarma, better known as Prakash Saput, is a prominent Nepalese singer, composer, model, and actor, celebrated for his contributions to Nepali folk music. His music, often addressing social and political issues, has made a significant impact, raising awareness and inspiring change. Saput gained widespread recognition in 2018 with his hit song “Bola Maya,” and since then, he has produced numerous popular folk songs, solidifying his status as one of Nepal’s most beloved artists. His debut in Nepali cinema came with the movie Pardesi 2 (2023), which was a commercial success, followed by his role in the record-breaking socio-drama Purna Bahadur ko Sarangi (2024), which became the highest-grossing Nepali movie of all time.

Personal Life and Early Career

Born into a Dalit family, Prakash Saput faced discrimination in his early life, but his passion for singing and dancing in local events helped him overcome challenges. As a child, he aspired to be an actor, and later worked as a radio jockey at Dhaulagiri FM, where he hosted the program Just for You, handling tasks like writing plays and mixing audio. His career took a major turn when he moved to Kathmandu, where he fully committed to pursuing a career in music. Despite facing initial challenges in his marriage due to caste differences, Saput is now happily married to Bindu Bohara, with whom he has two children, residing in Kathmandu.

Musical Career

Prakash Saput’s musical journey began in 2011 with the release of his debut album. His first song, “Gari Khana Deu,” addressed social issues, but it was his folk hit “Musu Musu Na Hasa” that truly captured the audience’s attention. Over the years, he has produced numerous popular songs like Dohori Battle (2018), Bola Maya (2018), Galbandi Chyatiyo (2019), Phuteka Chura (2020), Mero Pani Haina Ra Yo Desh (2021), Kura Bujhna Parcha (2021), Pir (2022), and Sakambari (2023). His music continues to resonate with listeners, touching on themes of love, societal issues, and personal struggles.

Honors and Recognition

Prakash Saput’s contributions to Nepali music and society have been widely acknowledged. He was appointed as the Goodwill Ambassador for Gandaki Province by the Nepal Tourism Board for Visit Nepal 2020. In 2021, he was also appointed as the Goodwill Ambassador for the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) by the Nepal Government. In recognition of his exceptional contributions to Nepali music, he was awarded the Janasewa Shri by the Government of Nepal in 2022.
