Prashant Tamang

Prashant Tamang, born on January 4, 1983, in Darjeeling, West Bengal, India, is an Indian singer and film actor of Nepalese descent. He gained widespread recognition after winning the third season of the popular singing reality show, Indian Idol, in 2007.

Early Life and Career:

Following his father’s untimely death, Prashant left school and joined the Kolkata Police as a constable, taking his father’s place. During his tenure, he showcased his musical talents by singing for the police orchestra.

Indian Idol Journey:

Encouraged by his colleagues, Prashant auditioned for Indian Idol Season 3 in Kolkata. His performances resonated with audiences, particularly among the Gorkha and Nepalese communities in India and abroad. This overwhelming support led him to win the competition, securing approximately 70 million votes in the finale.

Music and Film Career:

After his Indian Idol victory, Prashant released his debut album, “Dhanyavad,” featuring songs in Nepali and Hindi. He then transitioned into acting, making his debut in the successful Nepali film “Gorkha Paltan” in 2010, where he also contributed as a playback singer. He has since appeared in several Nepali films, including “Angalo Yo Maya Ko” (2011), “Kina Maya Ma” (2011), “Nishani” (2014), “Pardesi” (2015), and “Ye Maya Hanaima” (2016).
